Nepal and the Russian Federation (former Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics) established diplomatic relations on July 20, 1956. Nepal extended full and formal diplomatic recognition to the Russian Federation as a sovereign country on December 28, 1991 soon after the disintegration of the USSR. H. E. Prof. Ram Prasad Manandhar was the first non residential Nepalese Ambassador to the USSR. He was appointed soon after establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. Prof. Manandhar was the Nepalese Ambassador to the European countries ( England, France, the Eastern Germany) and the United States of America . The Nepalese Embassy in Moscow was established in 1961. The first residential Nepalese Ambassador to the USSR was Mr. Jharendra Narayan Singh, who presented his Credential Letters in Kremlin on July 27, 1961..

The Embassy of Nepal in Moscow is accredited to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Tajikistan, Georgia and Turkmenistan.

Objectives of the Embassy:
  • To strengthen co-operation with Russia in ways that advance Nepal's interests and contribute to her economic development,
  • To foster public understanding of Government of Nepal's policies and Project a positive image of Nepal in Russian,
  • To contribute to growth in Nepal's economy, through tourism, trade and Investment promotion and
  • To assist Government of Nepal officials and private sector and Nepalese Travelers and residents in Russia.
  • Apart from maintaining diplomatic relations with the host government and representing Nepal in various events in Russia, the Embassy of Nepal is also engaged in many other activities to promote Nepal's interest in Russia such as organizing or participating in various trade, tourism and cultural events.
  • Our regular operations include issuance of passports to Nepalese nationals, taking care of other consular matters and issuance of visa to Russian and other foreigners.
